Jamaica, a Caribbean island spanning approximately 10,990 square kilometers, is home to around 300 bird species, 29 of which are found nowhere else on Earth. Among these, seven hummingbird species inhabit the island, three of them endemic. The most iconic is the Streamertail, Jamaica’s national bird, recognized by its distinctive long tail feathers and revered as a symbol of the island’s natural heritage.
